This position is at NY Green Bank, a division of NYSERDA. NY Green Bank is a specialized investment fund dedicated to bridging financial gaps and mobilizing private capital to advance the build-out of clean energy and renewable infrastructure in New York State. NY Green Bank collaborates with the private sector to transform financing markets. It also develops transaction structures and methodologies that overcome typical clean energy investment barriers and can serve as replicable models for other capital providers.

- Attract the private sector capital investment needed to expand New York’s clean energy economy.

- Enable New York’s communities and residents to benefit equitably in the clean energy transition.
Job Overview
The Managing Director overseeing Business Development Innovation is responsible for NYGB’s business development efforts, including running the team that will focus on proactively identifying funding gaps and market barriers in New York’s clean energy marketplace and collaborating with existing NYGB teams to develop and implement solutions. These solutions will complement NYGB’s product offerings, to address systemic issues from multiple approaches. This group will focus primarily on driving new business towards NYGB – including fostering and maintaining relationships with clients and counterparties from both the public and private sectors. In addition, this team will be responsible for NYGB’s market research and intelligence (including assessing both internal portfolio analysis as well as external market forces), solution execution and market sounding, and tracking transformation and product promotion.
Primary Responsibilities
- Oversee all business development activities – this includes developing, fostering and maintaining relationships with project sponsors, utilities, NYS agencies and authorities, capital providers and other market participants active in New York’s clean energy marketplace.
- Market research and intelligence – tracking external market forces and determining how such impacts could affect NYGB and its borrowers, as well as analyzing NYGB’s existing portfolio and pipeline to analyze trends and implications
- Solution execution and market sounding – developing solutions that are broader than, and complementary to, NYGB’s individual transaction offerings and ensuring such solutions are “pressure tested” before formal launch
- Tracking transformation and product promotion – ensuring NYGB products and solutions are well known, successful and driving more NYGB business while ultimately serving to crowd more private capital into NYGB priority investment areas
- Perform all managerial and supervisory responsibilities with respect, fairness, consistency, and inclusion across the workforce.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, strategy, finance, economics or similar field and 10 years’ relevant experience, including 5 years in a supervisory role.
- Proven senior leader with the ability to function and contribute at all levels of the organization, including in a hands-on manner
- Experience in project, structured, asset based, or leveraged finance in commercial or investment banking, asset management, private equity, equity research, consulting, or similar environment.
- An understanding of transaction and client management, business due diligence, transaction documentation, and portfolio management
- Knowledge of structuring transactions across a variety of capital structures, preferably with an emphasis on credit products
- Proven ability to manage or support the management of multiple projects, provide complicated financial and credit analysis, and develop appropriate financial solutions.
- Perform all managerial and supervisory responsibilities with respect, fairness, consistency, and inclusion across the workforce.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with extensive proficiency in MS Excel and other MS Office products including Power Point and Word
- Ability to conduct and oversee extensive financial and industry due diligence to evaluate the risk/return parameters of a project, identify and conduct relevant sensitivity analyses
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex concepts.

- Be an adaptable, self-starter capable of working under limited supervision, as well as taking on new and unfamiliar tasks as needed while working effectively in a fluid and fast-paced organization
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in business administration, strategy, finance, economics or similar field and 8 years’ relevant experience including 5 years in a supervisory role.
- Direct experience in a business development or strategic partnership role, preferably in New York State and/or in the sustainable infrastructure space.
- Experience with clean energy and sustainable infrastructure finance is strongly preferred
- Previous formal credit training preferred

Salary
The salary range is $172,787 - $213,995 annually. Candidates will be considered based on qualifications and experience. An excellent benefits package is offered.
